Thermostable Mucosal Vaccines
In collaboration with Dr. Abraham Sonenshein's laboratory, this work aims to develop thermostable vaccines based on the natural thermostability of spore-forming bacteria. Protective antigens of rotavirus and TPD (Tetanus/Pertussis/Diphtheria) expressed on spores and vegetative cell walls of the bacteria Bacillus subtilis are being tested. Safety, immunogenicity, which includes humoral and cell-mediated immunity, and resistance to challenge, will be measured in mice, gnotobiotic piglets and non-human primates.
