In the Community
Here are several ways Cummings School works with and in our communities.
Paws for People
Tufts Paws for People is a therapy animal group that brings animal visitors to individuals throughout the region. Volunteers visit local elder care facilities, hospitals, schools, libraries, veterans' facilities, and other sites to provide people with animal companionship. Tufts Paws for People is a Community Partner of the national Pet Partners program. More information is available on Tufts Paws for People website.
Open House
Each year, Cummings School opens up its campus to the general public to give visitors of all ages an inside look at the workings of New England's only veterinary school. More information is available here.
Pet Loss Support
Tufts Pet Loss Support helps pet owners who have lost an animal companion and seeks to serve the community at large by providing resources for people grieving the loss of a pet. Visit Pet Loss Support for more information.
Tufts Dog Park
Located on the campus of Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University, Tufts Dog Park is a 2-acre fenced off-leash park, adjacent to Cummings School Farm, along the Westborough/Grafton town line. Tufts Dog Park is open to licensed, fully vaccinated, and well-behaved dogs and their owners who have registered, agreed to the rules of the park, and paid the required annual fee.
2024 Tufts Community Grant Recipients
Tufts Community Grants support the University's host communities and the important work being done by Tufts volunteers. Tufts Community Grants are funded by donations from Tufts University faculty and staff through the annual Tufts Community Appeal (TCA), an internal fundraising campaign.
Apple Tree Arts: Financial aid for students participating in summer music programs, including improvisation, voice, and guitar workshops
Claflin Hill Music Performance Foundation: Compensation for musicians to perform in three in-town concerts (two chamber concerts and one outdoor park concert)
Community Harvest Project: Purchase of greenhouse supplies and an irrigation system to support 15 acres in cultivation, including piloting the use of a high tunnel for growing season extension that will yield 250,000 pounds of fresh, free, local produce for thousands of food-insecure individuals
St. James Outreach at Our Lady of Hope Parish: Payment of the balance of a family heating system, the expansion of perishable food distribution, summer health and recreation activities, and the cost of hosting an educational service event
Touchstone Community School: A sustainability and stewardship program for youth that will provide opportunities to engage with farm animals and the gardens
