Why did you choose to pursue this degree, and why did you choose Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine to pursue this degree?

I chose this degree because to preserve our environment and the creatures that live in it, a One Health approach is needed. There are many challenges that we are facing and going to face this degree will help me develop the skills that are needed to find solutions. I have always loved animals and nature. This degree will help me learn how to preserve them both. I chose Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine because they encompass the meaning of One Health. There are so many opportunities to explore and grow my interests.

What are your interests and/or experience relative to conservation medicine?

My interests are mostly in wildlife conservation, pathology, biodiversity loss, and human-wildlife conflicts. During my undergrad, I did an internship at the Wildlife Clinic of Rhode Island where I learned how to help care for injured wildlife. I have worked with small animals in an emergency and vaccination clinic. These experiences have helped show me that there is still so much that humans do not understand regarding how animals, humans, and the environment interact.

What are your career goals after completing the program?

After completing the program, I want to continue my education by going to veterinary school and potentially specialize in wildlife and aquatic medicine. With all my schooling I want to be able to do research to learn more about the different animals and diseases that affect them in order to preserve biodiversity along with practicing veterinary medicine at zoos. Overall, my goal is to learn how to take care of our wildlife by preventing and treating different diseases.
