Clinical Pathology Residency

Our residency program in veterinary clinical pathology is a comprehensive three-year program designed to provide an in-depth educational experience in all facets of veterinary clinical pathology. Residents will train under a diverse board-certified faculty team, including four clinical pathologists and five anatomic pathologists. The Cummings Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory (CVDL) handles a wide variety of cases from the school’s hospitals and clinics, including samples from dogs, cats, exotic species, horses, alpacas, small ruminants, and wildlife. The program emphasizes intensive training in hematology, clinical chemistry, coagulation, cytology, surgical biopsy, laboratory instrumentation, and quality control practices, as well as advanced diagnostic techniques like flow cytometry, molecular testing, digital pathology, and biostatistics. Opportunities exist to participate in independent and/or collaborative research, including through the Clinical Trials Office. The program also includes opportunities for graduate research, with potential projects in infectious disease, cardiovascular research, and cancer research. Residents will be expected to contribute to D.V.M. training, participate in journal clubs and rounds, and engage in scholarly activities and publications. The residency offers a competitive salary, with annual adjustments, medical benefits, and travel support. Applicants must have a D.V.M. or equivalent degree and submit a CV, letter of interest, transcripts, and three references. Preference is given to candidates with post-doctoral clinical experience or research background.

Appointments are for 12 months, with annual renewal contingent upon satisfactory performance. Upon successful completion of the program, residents receive a certificate of residency. Residents enjoy comprehensive University benefits, including health and life insurance, as well as two weeks of annual vacation, a travel allowance, and professional liability insurance.
