Fabio Rosa, D.V.M., Ph.D., DACVP (he/his), a board-certified anatomic pathologist with a passion for diagnostics, was appointed in August as assistant clinical professor in the Department of Comparative Pathobiology at Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine.

Born and raised in Brazil, he holds an M.S., a D.V.M., and a Ph.D. from Federal University of Santa Maria, located in the southern part of his homeland. He completed a residency at Auburn University and most recently served as an assistant professor at Long Island University College of Veterinary Medicine.

The beneficiary of great professors and mentors during his education, Rosa aims to pay it forward. “I want to be one of the professors to inspire students to like pathology,” he explains.

I needed a new challenge in my career. Cummings School has a great teaching hospital with a variety of cases. I’m also hoping to return to diagnostics, which is my primary passion in pathology.

Rosa is eager to teach and explore possibilities for collaborative research. “I like working in academia, especially teaching and interacting with students,” he shares, noting a special affection for working with fourth-year students on rotations and helping them prepare for the future.

In addition to his affection for pathology, Rosa is a musical enthusiast, collecting many records and attending concerts. He is also a tennis player and fan, as well as a runner. He intends to run a half marathon this fall and has his sights set on running the Boston Marathon. He jokes, “We’ll have to see if my body allows it.”
