Spay/Neuter Externships
Many veterinary students choose to gain additional surgical training by participating in off campus spay/neuter experiences. In addition to the programs offered at Cummings School at The Luke & Lily Lerner Spay/Neuter Clinic, there are opportunities which are hosted by outside organizations around the nation and the world.
Students can get involved as early as their first year by volunteering on their own but should note that some programs are only available during their clinical year and may require the students to fund their own travel.
The most widely known spay/neuter training program is at the Humane Alliance in North Carolina. Information about their program can be found on their website.
Additionally, information for the following organizations can be found in the student opportunities data base.
- Pet Partners
Friends of Animals, New Jersey
Second Chance Animal Shelter, North Brookfield MA
