Student Representatives & Organizations
Student representatives and organizations play a vital role in building, supporting, and expanding our school community, including our D.V.M., Master's, and Ph.D. students. With over 30 unique student organizations, students have countless opportunities to explore their interests and build lasting connections.
The Office of Student Affairs oversees student representatives and organizations. Looking to start a new club? Please email the Office of Student Affairs to request more information.
SAVMA
Student American Veterinary Medical Association (SAVMA) exists to support, empower, and inspire all veterinary students in improving their lives, education, and career, along with securing a better future for our profession. In addition to the SAVMA e-board, 5 SAVMA committees support SAVMA programming.

Tufts SAVMA-Affiliated Student Organizations
The Student American Veterinary Medical Association (SAVMA) oversees select student organizations run by D.V.M. students. To participate in a SAVMA-affiliated student organization, students are required to pay SAVMA dues annually and maintain good standing. Most student organizations also ask members to pay a small club fee, which helps them fund and plan activities and events for their members.
Other Grafton Campus Student Organizations
The Office of Student Affairs oversees non-SAVMA affiliated student organizations. These organizations are open to all students on the Grafton campus, including D.V.M., Master's, and Ph.D. students.
- Pet Loss Support Helpline helps pet owners who have lost an animal companion and seeks to serve the community at large by providing resources for people grieving the loss of a pet.
- Tufts Community Action Team (TCAT) is a student-led group focused on providing preventative care for pets and promoting animal welfare within the community. They organize low-cost vaccine clinics and other events where student volunteers gain practical experience in physical exams, vaccinations, and client communication. Request more information here.
Class Councils & Class Officers
Serving as a class officer develops leadership skills and contributes to fun activities and programs. Class officers represent academic interests at meetings with the dean and administration, organize class events, and help classmates with questions or concerns. Elections for incoming officers are held annually in September after orientation. Returning council members can continue their roles, and elections are held when vacancies occur.
Student Company Representatives
Cummings School fosters collaborative ties with business sector colleagues to enhance educational, clinical, and research programs. Some companies retain “student company representatives” enrolled at the school to promote their identity and provide extra-curricular educational programming. All student company representatives must be approved by the Office of Students.
Veterinary Educational Review Committee (VERC) Representatives
VERC Representatives serve as liaisons between students, course directors, the curriculum coordinator, and the curriculum committee to present a consensus of student opinions and input. The overall goal of VERC is to improve and refine courses in the D.V.M. curriculum. A VERC representative’s most critical role is to maintain the class’s communication with the instructors and to present class input in an organized and constructive manner.
