Why did you choose to pursue this degree, and why did you choose Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine to pursue this degree?
This degree seemed like the perfect opportunity to combine my interests in ecology and veterinary medicine. I wanted to learn more about the real-world impacts of conservation medicine and about other opportunities to work in conservation.
What are your interests and/or experience relative to conservation medicine?
I was introduced to the idea of conservation when I began volunteering in the education department at the Cleveland Zoo as a freshman in high school and have been working with animals ever since. I recently worked as a veterinary assistant and husbandry intern in Ann Arbor for the last year. Last spring I participated in a study abroad program at an Australian wildlife sanctuary where I was taught some veterinary medicine and gained hands-on experience examining animals, including some exotics. Throughout this course I also created an enrichment project for the meerkats housed at the sanctuary and presented it to guests.
What are your career goals after completing the program?
I plan to either pursue a degree in veterinary medicine or work with wildlife in some other capacity.
