Biography

Hails from Rhode Island
BS Biology
Rhode Island College, 2018

My name is Amber Jean Sylvestre and I am from Woonsocket, Rhode Island. I graduated from Rhode Island College with a Bachelor of Science in Biology in 2018. I worked as a medical scribe for two and a half years in the emergency department of Roger Williams Hospital as well as Our Lady of Fatima Hospital while I was in school. Once I finished school, I began working as a Medical Technologist in the Immunology department at Athena Diagnostics, an esoteric laboratory within Quest Diagnostics. In this position, I managed various assays and performed validation work for ELISAs, radioimmunoassays, and semi-quantitative nanoliter immunoassays. I worked in this position for two and a half years up until entering the MS-IDGH program. The MS-IDGH program has been on my radar for quite some time as I have a strong interest in microorganisms, particularly how they alter the body and how we can combat that. Once completing the program, I plan to apply to veterinary medicine and physician assistant programs. Outside of that, I enjoy spending time with my family, playing video games, and going for walks or hikes. I absolutely adore animals. Throughout 2019 and 2020, I spent my Saturday mornings volunteering at Pawfect Life Rescue located in Uxbridge, MA. I have an 18-pound orange and white Maine Coon/Domestic Long Hair mix named Henry!
