Cattle and sheep and llamas (Oh my!)
Q&A with Cummings School’s Farm Manager Stephanie Bertrand
Stephanie Bertrand
Farm Manager, Department of Animal Resources
What does your job entail and what is your favorite part of it?
My job includes every aspect of farming on campus; caring for livestock (cattle, sheep, llamas, and chickens), raising crops that feed our livestock and keep the campus beautiful, and instructing veterinary students about livestock and farming. The best part of my job is working outside every day, regardless of the weather.
How long have you worked at Cummings School, and what makes it a special place to work?
In my 11 years of working at Cummings School I’ve learned that the veterinary students make it a wonderful place. The combination of caring for the Farm’s livestock, raising and harvesting the crops off the land that makes this campus beautiful, and educating our students about livestock and farming is what makes the Farm at the Cummings School a unique opportunity for both the students and the community.
What brings you the most joy?
Farming and caring for livestock is my passion and the ability to do it daily is a dream!
