Services for Researchers

Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine collaborates with pharmaceutical, medical device, and biotechnology companies. Our veterinary specialists assist corporate sponsors with animal model development, discovery, and proof-of-concept studies for preclinical testing of novel compounds and medical devices in a wide array of species. We have the technology, expertise, and experience to facilitate product development for veterinary and human health markets.

Cummings School veterinary experts help bridge the gap between animals and people, and between proof-of-concept and clinical trials. Our strengths include working with large animal models, experimental surgery, regenerative medicine, ABSL2 and ABSL3 containment, orthopedics, MRI and CT imaging, pulmonology, and pathology. Additional resources include project management, AAALAC- accredited vivarium, high health research swine, and laboratory and office space.

What We Do

From start-ups to large pharmaceutical companies, we assist sponsors with model development, discovery, and proof-of-concept studies for pre-clinical and clinical testing of novel compounds and medical devices in a wide array of species. We can also collaborate as subcontractors on a company’s SBIR or STRR proposal. We have the technology, experts, resources, and services to effectively support diverse projects.

Located in central Massachusetts, we benefit from a rich web of creative investigators, highly skilled technicians and clinical specialists, proximity to major biomedical research and human and veterinary care facilities, and collaborative relationships with health care and academic institutions in the region.

Our resources include advanced imaging technology, project management, and technical support. We provide skilled husbandry and research support of large and small laboratory animal species. On-site breeding produces high-health research swine to investigator requirements.

Our animal care program is registered with the USDA, accredited by Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care, International (AAALAC), and has an Assurance of Compliance with the NIH Office for Laboratory Animal Welfare. Our research is overseen by our Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC).
