Dr. Adrienne Haley (she/her) was appointed in October as assistant clinical professor of anesthesiology in the Department of Clinical Sciences.

“Beyond enjoying my clinical work, I love teaching,” she explains. “I find great joy in helping prepare the next generation of veterinarians to independently anesthetize the patients in their care as safely as possible, and I love witnessing light-bulb moments as my students learn … It means a lot to me to help set others up for success in their careers.”

Haley earned a D.V.M. from the University of Illinois. She completed internships at Angell Animal Medical Center, Dallas Veterinary Surgical Center, and the University of Missouri, as well as a residency in comparative anesthesiology and analgesia at the University of Minnesota.

Many facets of Cummings School’s faculty position were appealing to Haley. “Aside from teaching, I am excited to contribute scientifically to my field with research opportunities, to manage more complicated cases through the tertiary referral aspect of academic medicine, to work with high-caliber technicians and specialists, and to continue working with a broad range of species,” she explains, while noting her attraction to a busy caseload and the complexity of cases “because I like a challenge.”

Pleased to work with the excellent technicians on the anesthesiology service during her first couple of months on campus, Haley also appreciates working on a “beautiful and unique” campus. “Looking around gives you small moments to take a deep breath and reset each time you walk from one building to another,” she says.

“I am proud of the care I provide for patients, trying to make anesthesia as safe and as minimally stressful as possible, and working collegially with their primary doctors to make it a smooth experience for all.

“While I get to know the community and adjust to a new clinical setting, I look forward to starting my next research project and learning how to contribute to Tufts’ legacy of teaching, practicing quality medicine, and researching in my new role.”

Haley and her husband reside in Leominster with their two large dogs—a Rhodesian Ridgeback and a Labrador/Staffordshire mix. She loves to hike (favoring trails with lots of bouldering and scrambling), is a proficient seamstress, an amateur knitter, and has realized that “in another life, I probably would have enjoyed a career in musical theater.”
