Animal Welfare, Ethics and Policy Activities

The Animal Welfare, Ethics and Policy Signature Opportunity offers students many opportunities to learn about animal welfare in practice and the policy challenges and opportunities that confront the veterinary profession.

Student Research Projects

Many opportunities exist for students to conduct research in areas of human-animal relationships, animal policy, animal welfare, and veterinary practice. Student research projects focus on the psychology of human-animal relationships, animals in therapeutic settings, community-based programs supporting the human-animal bond, understanding and supporting the welfare, well-being, and behavior of animals, companion animals in homes and shelters, supporting pet ownership, the role of the human-animal bond in veterinary medicine and access to care, and management of human-wildlife conflicts.

Special Events

The Center for Animals and Public Policy (CAPP) welcomes all D.V.M. students to its Animal Matters series, campus-wide seminars that attract leading thinkers and practitioners to discuss their pioneering work in animal welfare, human-animal relationships, and related policies. Regional, national, and international conferences and special events related to animal welfare and human animal relationships are also scheduled to facilitate attendance by D.V.M. students.
