Ophthalmology Specialty Internship
The successful candidate will join a collaborative ophthalmology team consisting of three faculty ophthalmologists, one resident, and two technicians within a busy referral service. The service provides care for a diverse caseload, including small animals, large animals, exotic species, and wildlife patients across the three hospitals on the Cummings campus.
Program Overview
- Full-time training on the ophthalmology service
- Exposure to a broad range of ophthalmic medical and surgical cases
- Opportunities to work with companion animals, large animals, exotics, and wildlife
- Participation in emergency service coverage alongside other house officers
- Clinical teaching opportunities with rotating interns and fourth-year veterinary students
- Weekly journal clubs, seminars, and clinical rounds
- Completion of a small research project
Training Opportunities
Training takes place at the Foster Hospital for Small Animals in North Grafton, Massachusetts, located approximately 40 miles west of Boston. The intern will spend 100% of their clinical time on the ophthalmology service while sharing emergency responsibilities.
A strong emphasis is placed on both advanced clinical training and veterinary education. As part of the program, the intern will actively contribute to the clinical instruction of fourth-year veterinary students.
