External Funding Opportunities

  • Dear Colleague,

The Natalie V. Zucker Research Center will be accepting applications for its twenty-sixth annual grant awards now, through Friday, April 17, 2026. All of our junior faculty, postdoctoral fellows, and residents are encouraged to apply.

ELIGIBILITY: Candidates must be engaged in basic or clinical biomedical research related to human health at Tufts or the major Tufts-affiliated hospitals. Junior faculty, postdoctoral fellows, and residents are eligible. The applicant's mentor or Department Chair must support their request. The research project must align with at least one of the five pillars of the TU-TM Research Enterprise: Brain and Behavior; Cancer Biology, Care, and Survivorship; Cardiovascular Disease and Critical Care; Transplant Immunity and Infection; and Women’s Health, Nutrition, and Sex Differences. Previous awardees as well as faculty members who are already principal investigators on RO1 grants or who have financial start-up packages for their laboratory are ineligible.

AMOUNT AND DURATION OF AWARD: Individual awards of up to $10,000 will be given for basic, clinical, translational, or educational research projects, which may include travel and training, or up to $5,000 for only travel and training. Applicants may request support for items or activities that will advance and benefit their research career and professional stature. Examples include purchasing a scientific instrument or services such as Next-Gen sequencing for their direct research; attending a research meeting; defraying tuition for scientific courses, career development or an additional degree; launching a pilot project; establishing a new research collaboration; visiting another lab to learn new approaches; or providing partial salary support for a research assistant. Funds may not be used as salary support for the award recipient. For the training options, we will also consider applications for career coaching such as the NCFDD Faculty Success Program or skills development such as grant writing. The grant period is one year, with the earliest start date being July 1, 2026.

The deadline for submission of applications is Friday, April 17, 2026.

The application Face Page and instructions are attached and can also be found at Natalie V. Zucker Research Grant. Completed applications and the support letter should be sent to Isaac Harmon.

Please help us spread the word of this exceptional opportunity to all our junior faculty, postdoctoral fellows, and residents.

    Sincerely,

    Claire Moore, PhD

  • The American Veterinary Medical Foundation (AVMF), the AVMA's charitable arm, has partnered with the Stanton Foundation to fund clinical research that will look into cost-effective diagnostic or treatment options for dogs that veterinarians can offer to clients with limited veterinary care budgets.

Partnering with the American Veterinary Medical Foundation, the Stanton Foundation will fund a clinical trial focusing on cost-effective diagnostic or treatment options for dogs, aimed at clients with limited veterinary care budgets. The Stanton Foundation Canine Spectrum of Care Clinical Trials Grant will offer up to $150,000 to fund a clinical trial to expand the evidence base for cost-effective care options for canine conditions commonly seen in general practice. The goal is to improve the affordability of care, while maintaining the financial stability of the veterinary practice.

Veterinarians with a passion for canine clinical research and a commitment to finding solutions that are both affordable for clients and financially sustainable for the veterinarian are invited to apply. Applicants should have a research idea that meets the following criteria:

    • The primary focus must be on improving health outcomes for dogs, though other companion animals may also benefit.
    • Research should address diseases and conditions commonly seen in primary care practices, whether regional or national.
    • Proposed trials must yield clinical information that can be immediately useful to veterinarians in practice.
    • The proposed protocol must be not only affordable for clients with limited budgets but also financially sustainable for veterinary practices to implement.
    • The research must be designed to conclude within two years from the start of the project to the final report.

Applicants must first submit a three- to four-page preproposal outlining their research idea— including a rough estimate of costs to both client and veterinarian to implement the protocol to be tested—between March 1-May 1. The Stanton Foundation will review these submissions and those selected for the next stage will be notified by June 15. Full proposals will be due by August 1 with final decisions being made by September 1.

More information on eligibility and application guidelines can be found on the AVMF website.

Funding opportunities focused specifically on camelid and alpaca research are rare. The Alpaca Research Foundation (ARF) invites qualified investigators to submit research proposals that advance scientific understanding and strengthen the North American alpaca industry.

Established in 1998 by Alpaca Registry Inc., ARF funds alpaca-related scientific research with practical applications for breeders, veterinarians, and producers. ARF is particularly interested in projects that have an immediate and measurable impact on the industry.
As ARF transitions from traditional mail outreach to electronic distribution, we are sharing this year’s request for proposals via email and welcome you to share this opportunity with colleagues who may have interest in alpaca-related research.
