Biography

Hey there! My name is Beckett Goodnight and I graduated from North Carolina State University in 2019 with a degree in Zoology, and two minors in Applied Ecology and Italian Studies. As an undergraduate, I researched the effects of beach driving on nesting behaviors of the American Oystercatcher. Prior to starting the Conservation Medicine program and after graduation, I worked as the Curator for the Veterinary Sciences department at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences where I participated in sea turtle rehabilitation, collection management, and public education. I chose to pursue the MCM program due to its focus on the One Health perspective, which bridges my interests between wildlife veterinary medicine and conservation biology. I plan to pursue a career in wildlife veterinary medicine where my interests lie in conservation of native wildlife and disease transmission. Outside of class, I will be playing with my three pets, my two chinchillas, Rhys and Chadwick, and my hedgehog, Levi, as well as scuba diving, hiking, birdwatching, and playing video games.
