Biography
I’m Caitlin Andrews and I’m a new postdoc working with Dr. Chris Whittier and Dr. Alison Robbins to support teaching and mentoring in the MCM program. I grew up in West Newbury, MA, and studied Organismic & Evolutionary Biology at Harvard. As an undergrad, my research experiences spanned a diverse array of species including gray parrots, primates, and domestic dogs. For my senior thesis, I conducted fieldwork in Mexico examining the ranging patterns and conservation of Yucatan spider monkeys. I then hopped across the pond for my PhD at the University of Cambridge and Zoological Society of London (ZSL), where I used my training in behavioral ecology to inform conservation translocation efforts for the hihi (a threatened bird endemic to New Zealand). Alongside my work in the MCM program, I'll be continuing to collaborate with ZSL while at Tufts, helping to develop a conservation translocation program for the sihek (an endemic bird from Guam that is currently extinct in the wild). I am happy to be settled back in Massachusetts and in my free time enjoy walking at the beach with my 16-year-old pit bull, Jupiter.
