- How do you start your day?
Coffee, always! When the weather cooperates, sitting with my dog on the porch and drinking my coffee before my kids wake up.
- What is on your bucket list?
To build a chicken coop at our house.
- What three words best describe you?
Reliable, empathetic, organized.
- If you could time travel, what year(s) would you visit?
2004 – re-living the college days as a young Jumbo would be fun!
- What is your hidden talent?
Gardening.
- What book, movie, podcast, show would you recommend?
Recently I’ve been listening to the Good Hang podcast with Amy Poehler. It’s a simple concept – Amy having a chat with her friends (most of whom are comedians), and it makes you feel like you are hanging out and having a laugh with hilarious people. I think we all need that right now!
- What is your dream vacation?
As a lifelong equestrian with Irish heritage, my dream trip is horseback riding across the countryside in Ireland.
- What or who has had the greatest impact on you?
My kids. Parenting is a lifelong exercise in learning to accept that joy and fun exists alongside frustration and worry, and that it’s okay to never really know what we are doing.
- What’s the best advice you ever received?
My graduate school advisor, Dr. Rich Lerner, was fond of saying that the first rule of research is that “things take longer than they do.” It’s a good reminder that the pace of science can feel slow, but to not lose sight of the goal.
- What is your least favorite word or phrase?
“Your manuscript has been rejected.”
- What is your favorite junk food?
Green monster ice cream from Bailey’s Bubble in New Hampshire.
- What is your theme song?
As a child of the 90s, probably some terrible pop song.
- Dog or cat or?
Dog and horse.
- Who would play you in a movie?
Julianne Moore.
- What is your favorite season of the year?
There is nothing more magical than fall in New England.
- What is your favorite color?
Blue.
- Early bird or night owl?
Early bird.
- What is your biggest pet peeve?
My kids leaving dirty socks on every surface in our house other than the laundry bin.
- What is your favorite type of surprise?
Seeing a former student out in the world. There is nothing more gratifying than seeing students be successful and live into their passions and skills.
- What or who makes you smile?
My dog sleeping in a sunbeam.
