Biography

From: Boston, MA

B.S., Marine Biology, University of New Haven, 2021

Why did you choose to pursue the M.S. in Animals and Public Policy (MAPP) degree, and why did you choose Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine to pursue this degree?
I have always had a passion for animal welfare and my recent experience working in laboratory animal research deepened my interest in the relationship between animals and humans. This experience showed me the importance of ensuring the welfare of animals while supporting caretakers that work so closely with them. The MAPP programs focus aligns perfectly with my goal to strengthen my ability to effectively advocate for both.

What are your interests and/or experience related to this program?
I have always known that I wanted to work with animals. Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to work in aquariums, wildlife sanctuaries, and with laboratory animals, and in each role, I’ve focused on improving the lives and welfare of the animals in my care. Through my most recent experiences, I’ve come to truly understand the meaningful impact I can have on animal welfare. I am confident that the MAPP program will further deepen my knowledge and enhance my ability to advocate for and improve the well-being of animals.

What are your career goals after completing the program?

I’m interested both in veterinary or enrichment enhancement for animals in captivity and hope to narrow this down throughout the program!
