Planning for an Appointment

Paperwork

All paperwork (from shelter, rescues, ACOs, or private owners) must be submitted to lernerclinic@tufts.edu at least 24 hours prior to the scheduled appointment or we may not be able to facilitate the appointment.

  • If your appointment was arranged by a shelter/rescue, the shelter/rescue completed the required paperwork prior to your arrival.
  • If you are a private client, please complete all registration forms prior to arrival.
  • If you have a Massachusetts Animal Fund (MAF) voucher, please present the completed and signed voucher at the time of drop-off.

Prior to Surgery

  • Do not allow your pet any access to food after midnight the night before surgery.
  • Free access to water is OK.

Drop-off in the morning

  • Drop-off time is between 7:30-8:30 am unless directed otherwise.
  • Please be on time or we may not be able to offer services to your pet.
  • Call 508-887-4326 to let us know that you have arrived. The Luke and Lily Lerner Spay/Neuter Clinic (Lerner Clinic) does not have a waiting area, so please stay in your car with your pet until we come to your car.
  • DOGS: keep your dog on its leash until we put a new leash on to retrieve your dog. You will keep your leash.
  • CATS: please always keep cats in carriers.

Updates

  • We may call you to clarify your pet’s medical history or if we discover a medical issue on pre-surgical physical exam. You will not receive a phone call with an update after your pet’s surgery is completed, and you can plan on coming to pick up your pet at the assigned pick-up time.

Pick-up

  • Pick-up time is usually 5-5:30 pm, but Lerner Clinic staff will advise you if this time will be different.
  • PLEASE DO NOT BE LATE. If you arrive after your designated pick-up time, you may incur a late fee of up to $30 per half hour. Additionally, you may have to pick up your pet from Henry and Lois Foster Hospital for Small Animals.
  • When you arrive, please call 508-887-4326, and a staff member or student will come to your car to go over discharge and medication instructions and to deliver your pet.
  • For dogs, please have a leash ready.
  • Please pay your bill online here prior to picking up your pet.
