BA Biology, Skidmore College, Saratoga Springs, NY, 2022

Why did you choose to pursue this degree, and why did you choose Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine to pursue this degree?

Hello, my name is Caitlin Koto, and I was born and raised in New Jersey. I graduated Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, NY in May of 2022 with a BA in biology and dance with a concentration in performance/choreography and a minor in the Periclean Honors Forum. A little bit about me, I have five cats and enjoy dancing, singing, and knitting! While at Skidmore, I founded and taught a virtual dance program for older adults (ages 55+). I became interested in infectious disease and biomedical research from engaging in microbiology, molecular biology, and interdisciplinary courses as well as molecular biology and biological clocks research at Skidmore. I was drawn to the MS-IDGH accelerated program because of the rigor of the curriculum as well as the opportunity for applied training in several laboratory techniques. The Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine was a great choice for me to pursue an MS because of the proximity to the hub for biomedical research.

What are your career goals after completing the program?

After the MS-IDGH, I plan on pursuing a PhD in biomedical science and clinical and translational research.
