BS Microbiology, University of Mumbai, 2017
Why did you choose to pursue this degree, and why did you choose Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine to pursue this degree?
A line that best describes me is by Sir David Attenborough ‘An understanding of the natural world and what’s in it is a source of not only a great curiosity but great fulfillment.’ Nature and its intricacies have always been source of fascination to me. As a toddler, I would often manage to escape my Mumma’s arms and retreat to nature. As a teenager, I campaigned against environmental damage by leading cleanliness drives to clear up the plastic choked Mumbai beaches. Having diverse interests all circling around environment and human interaction, I choose Microbiology that blends my interests well, later graduated from Mumbai University in the year 2017. Brought up in a cosmopolitan environment of rich cultural diversity in Mumbai, I have always been intrigued to understand about the issues of anti-biotic resistance This drove me to apply at Themis Medicare as a trainee, which focused on novel formulation and manufacturing APIs. I received rotational training in the departments of quality control, corporate quality assurance and regulatory affairs. My research in this tenure explored how the pharmaceutical industry is fueling the rise of anti-microbial resistance through pollution in its supply chains. This entailed challenging Themis’s approach to waste management, highlighting measures to prevent the next pandemic. What brought me here is the emphasis on applying global health to arrive at novel solutions that benefits our biosphere.
What are your career goals after completing the program?
The opportunity to work with professors from diverse departments, would allow me to fine-tune my research topic and would prove to be a great stepping stone for my Ph.D aspirations. Besides academics, Tufts-at the heart of the scientific community, would help me foster my growth as a professional and an individual.
