Why did you choose to pursue this degree, and why did you choose Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine to pursue this degree?

Ever since I was little, the only profession I was ever interested in was being a veterinarian. I have only worked in animal spaces my entire life. Once I began studying policy in college, I realized that, as one singular person, I could not patch up every individual animal myself. Thus, the idea of creating and influencing policy that could aid thousands of animals’ lives became an intriguing pursuit. The crossover of science and policy in the MAPP program called my name and made me feel as if I had found my perfect area of study. My career interest has now shifted, and I hope to change the lives’ of animals through policy, whether that means I obtain a J.D., PhD, or work in the non-profit sector as a researcher or advocate.

What are your career goals after completing the program?

I have tons of avenues that I want to pursue. I am passionate about ending the exotic pet trade, advocating for wildlife protection, and taking down the factory farming industry. I am excited on being able to focus on the specific things I am passionate about. Career-wise, I want to be an advocate who utilizes science to push policy.
