Biography

Hails from Hawai’i
BA Cell & Molecular Biology
Occidental College, 2021

Hi! My name is Mika O’Shea. I’m originally from Honolulu, Hawai’i, but just graduated this past May from Occidental College in Los Angeles. I received my BA in Cell & Molecular Biology with a minor in Mathematics. I spent the fall of 2019 in Tanzania studying wildlife management and conservation, which opened my eyes to the intersectionality of animal and human health. I was drawn to the MS-IDGH program because of the holistic, One Health approach to studying infectious diseases that can be applied across a wide range of disciplines. After the program, I hope to pursue a DVM or PhD and work in the field of veterinary epidemiology. Outside of the classroom, I like to read, be outdoors, and hang out with my dog Hina– unfortunately, she’s at home in Hawai’i but I’m hoping to adopt here soon! I also played collegiate water polo, and love to learn about and share music and art. I’m looking forward to the program and meeting everyone soon!
