Why did you choose to pursue this degree, and why did you choose Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine to pursue this degree?
I have been working with animals since I was a sophomore in college. I began volunteering/working in shelters, and found I had a strong passion for that work. After I graduated, I decided to pursue it as a career. I chose to enroll in the MAPP program because I want to directly influence the programs and policies that relate to domestic animals. While I enjoy working hands-on and providing daily care, I'd really like to address the problems facing animals from a more systematic perspective. I chose Cummings specifically because no other school offers such a unique and comprehensive program that will provide me with both knowledge and hands-on experience.

What are your interests and/or experience relative to your program?
I have been working with dogs in animal shelters for four years now. I am also a certified dog trainer and have worked as a behavior specialist at a shelter for the last year. I'd like to continue working in this field but in a way where I have more influence over shelter policy and program design, focusing specifically on canine welfare and behavior.

What are your career goals after completing the program?
I hope to continue working in shelters on the administrative level, specifically in shelter operations and policy. I'm hoping to be able to focus on behavior and training within the shelter environment and investigate ways in which we can improve the mental health and resilience of dogs living long-term in shelters.
