Application to MS-Infectious Disease and Global Health (MS-IDGH)

Admissions Process and Requirements

Admission to the MS-IDGH program is based on an evaluation and recommendation by the MS-IDGH Committee. An interview may be required. The dean of Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine admits applicants from these recommendations. Approximately 12 to 20 students are admitted to the MS-IDGH program each year.

Application Requirements

To be considered for admission, applicants must submit an online application by one of the following deadlines:

If openings exist after May 3, applications will be considered on a rolling basis until the class is full.

  • Application for Admission
    An online application for all applicants to the MS-IDGH program is available for your convenience. 
  • Application Fee 
  • A nonrefundable application fee of $70 must be paid by credit card when completing the online application.
  • MS-IDGH Program Prerequisites 
  • Applicants must have completed the equivalent of a bachelor's degree at an accredited college or university. Undergraduate work does not have to be completed in a specific major. Additionally, candidates must successfully complete the following course work prior to enrolling at Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine but not necessarily prior to applying to the school. All prerequisite coursework must be taken at an accredited college or university.
    • Biology (two semesters)
    • Statistics (one semester)
    • Chemistry (one semester)
    • A minimum of one semester of a science laboratory, preferably in biology
  • Academic Transcripts
    Official transcripts must be submitted from all colleges and universities an applicant has attended. This includes separate official transcripts for all foreign exchange or semester abroad programs, as well as transfer credit from other institutions that appear on an applicant's primary transcript. All official transcripts should be sent electronically to or mailed to:

  • Standardized Tests (Optional)
    The Graduate Record Examination (GRE) or the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) is not required, though applicants who wish to submit their official scores are welcome to do so.

GRE: The Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine’s GRE recipient code is 3893. Scores are valid for five years. Additional information can be obtained on the GRE website.

MCAT: To send your MCAT scores to Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine, please follow these instructions.

  • Log in to the MCAT Testing History site:
  • Select “Send all of my scores”
  • In the box “Veterinary Schools,” select “Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University”
  • Select “Add”
  • After reading the consent to release scores, check the box “I agree”
  • Select “Submit”

  • Letters of Evaluation
    Please provide three letters of evaluation, one from each of the following areas:
    • A faculty member in your major field of study
    • A professional colleague or employer
    • A faculty member or professional colleague

Applicants from Foreign Countries.

In addition to all of the application requirements above, foreign applicants must also submit:

  • Official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended, in their original language
  • Attested English translations of all transcripts, if applicable
  • Test results for the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) if their native language is not English. The Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine’s recipient code for the TOEFL is 3499.
