From the Dean
Welcome to Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University, New England’s only veterinary school. Whether you are a potential student, an animal owner who needs veterinary services, a potential faculty or staff member, or a member of the public with a passion for animals, we hope you find what you need at Cummings School.
We provide an outstanding learning environment in which students, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds explore and advance the many different facets of veterinary medicine and its contributions to society. We offer a four-year professional Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree program, opportunities for combined DVM/graduate degree programs, and stand-alone graduate programs. Students also can further enrich their educational experience by taking advantage of Cummings School’s signature opportunities and selectives.
The seven hospitals and clinics of Cummings Veterinary Medical Center deliver comprehensive and compassionate care for companion animals, horses, livestock, and wildlife. These clinics offer exceptional training and research opportunities for the veterinary students, interns, and residents who will set the bar for the future of veterinary medicine. The Foster Hospital for Small Animals and our Hospital for Large Animals serve as important referral centers, providing tertiary care and 24/7 emergency services for the region’s veterinarians and their clients. Our clinics uphold a patient-centered approach that puts animals and their owners first, providing an excellent learning example for our students as they enter the profession.
Research is one of the pillars on which Cummings School was built, and it remains at the heart of everything we do. From laboratory and field work to prevent future deaths from influenza to providing pets with access to experimental new therapies for historically difficult-to-cure diseases, we are lighting the way toward a better future and providing great learning opportunities for our graduate students. We are proud that much of the research that we conduct not only improves the health of the animals we care for but also contributes to human health and the health of the ecosystems we share.
Engaging locally, nationally, and internationally as active citizens gives our students, faculty, and staff a deep sense of purpose. Cummings School’s reach spans the globe—from ensuring access to veterinary care for under-served pets in Worcester, to uniting multidisciplinary medical professionals to address human, animal and environmental health in Rwanda.
Welcome to Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine. We look forward to sharing our world with you: healing animals, helping humans, and transforming global health.
