Term Clinical Appointment in Large Animal Internal Medicine
The Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University invites applications for a 6-month clinical service appointment in Large Animal Internal Medicine at the Clinical Instructor level. Clinical service includes regular daytime clinic duty and emergency back-up for interns and residents on nights and weekends as part of a faculty rotation. The successful candidate will work with a team of three large animal internal medicine faculty including one dual-boarded in emergency and critical care, four large animal surgery faculty, and two large animal ultrasound specialists. Supervision, teaching, and evaluation of fourth-year DVM students on clinical rotation are required. Intern and resident training is also an important component of this position. Two interns and two residents are currently enrolled in the program.
The Large Animal Medicine service is supported by outstanding radiology, ultrasound, cardiology, dermatology, ophthalmology, anesthesia, and surgery services. Available equipment includes helical CT, MRI, and ultrasound and facilities include a state-of-the-art isolation unit. The caseload of the service consists of horses (80%), camelids (10%), and small ruminants, pigs, and cattle (10%), and the majority of cases are referred. Daytime medical emergency and intensive care cases are admitted and managed by the Large Animal Medicine service. A full‐time technician is dedicated to the service and a team of technicians provides 24-hour medical care to hospitalized animals.
Requirements include a DVM or equivalent degree, ability to obtain a Massachusetts license, and completion of a formal residency in large animal medicine. Preference will be given to individuals who are ACVIM or ECVIM board-certified, but board eligible individuals are also encouraged to apply.
The salary for this position will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
