Volunteers Needed!

The Wildlife Clinic accepts volunteers 7 days a week. Monday thru Friday, our volunteers work for a minimum of 4 hours, either in the morning (preferable) or afternoon (our hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.). On weekends, our volunteers work from 8:30 to noon.

Our volunteers perform a variety of services for the Clinic. Our animal room volunteers are the backbone of the Clinic workforce. Without them we would not be able to operate effectively, especially during the busy spring and summer months. Our first priority is always the care and feeding of the animals. This includes cage cleaning, food preparation and assisting with medical treatments as needed. It also includes maintenance of the animal room, specifically, and the Clinic as a whole. After animal care, the next priorities are laundry, sweeping, mopping and other general maintenance tasks. Volunteers may also be asked to keep track of animal room inventory, stock items throughout the clinic, develop and file radiographs, clean and sterilize surgical equipment, as well as go on a variety of clinic related errands for the staff. Some phone coverage will also be required.

Our office volunteer positions are designed for those people with an interest in contributing to the Clinic but who are not as interested in animal handling. Duties include office filing and record keeping, copying, adding animal records into the computer, library maintenance, answering phones, transportation, clinic related errands, and participation in special projects such as natural history research and diet development.

In the spring and summer we have a particular need for drivers to transport animals that are ready for rehabilitation to licensed rehabilitators all over the state.

If you think you might be able to contribute to the Wildlife Clinic as a volunteer and are able to make a minimum commitment of six months with a 4-hour shift once a week, please fill out the volunteer application. If you would like to speak with someone at the Clinic about volunteering, please call 508 839-7918.
