Merial Veterinary Scholars Program Responsibilities

In addition to conducting the research identified in the proposal, each Merial Veterinary scholar will have the following responsibilities:

  • Attending Journal Club meetings in the department of the mentor. This is intended to provide training in critical evaluation of a scientific publication.
  • Attending a special two-hour seminar on statistical methods.
  • Attending a two-hour seminar on Responsible Conduct of Research.
  • Participating in field trips to Boston Scientific, Tufts New England Medical Center and Charles River Labs to allow students to tour a biomedical research company, an academic research facility and a high quality laboratory animal medicine production and contract research facility. Informal meeting with investigators and laboratory animal veterinarians will also be arranged for discussion of career paths in these various areas.
  • Presenting research findings at the Cummings School's annual Student Research Day.
  • Attending campus research seminars during the summer.
  • Attend the 2015 Merial Veterinary Scholars Symposium in August 2015 at University of California, Davis.
