Grafton Science Park
To further leverage its scientific resources and those of nearby institutions into economic development, the Cummings School began partnering with BioRealty, Inc., a developer specializing in facilities for life science companies, in 2008. BioRealty’s primary responsibility is the commercial development of the 702,000 square-foot Grafton Science Park on 100 acres at the western end of the Cummings School North Grafton campus.
The Grafton Science Park is one of the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine's several initiatives to use its faculty expertise, unique research infrastructure, and land and building assets to create economic development in central Massachusetts. Through its collaborative research program, Cummings School veterinarians and scientists help companies in the biotechnology, pharmaceutical and medical device industries achieve research milestones and move health care products through the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval process.
The Grafton Science Park is bringing biotechnology, pharmaceutical, medical device and animal health companies to the region, and the NE-RBL—the first building located in Grafton Science Park—is a magnet for those companies. The park also gives companies in Tufts Biotechnology Transfer Center a place to grow. Private capital investment in the park is leveraging past Tufts and federal investments in the Biotechnology Transfer Center, state investment in its infrastructure and current federal investment in the nearby Department of Labor's Job Corps program. Tufts active program of technology transfer, collaborative research, and real estate development with an experienced developer partner make it a unique catalyst for economic development in Grafton, MA.
