Daniel Mordarski Student Profile

Daniel Mordarski

I’m from Worcester, MA and graduated from George Washington University - B.S. in Biology Summa Cum Laude. I worked in a research laboratory focusing on developing helminth vaccinations. The ultimate goal was to find antigen targets in hookworms which could be used to immunize populations prone to hookworm infection, mostly poor, sub-tropical farming communities (Southeast Asia). Although our work did not directly involve interaction with the public or public health officials, we were able to contribute an understanding of specific hookworm genomic sequences and how they may be manipulated so as to produce immunity against infection. My main area of interest in public lies in infectious diseases, specifically zoonoses. While I would like to focus on this area during my four years, I also hope to gain a broader appreciation for the sphere of public health and the major organizations and institutions.
