Critical Care Veterinary Specialty
The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the Foster Hospital for Small Animals provides care for critically ill dogs and cats 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Overseen by faculty members who are board certified by the American College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care, the Foster Hospital's state-of-the-art ICU allows us to provide a level of care not available in most veterinary hospitals.
The ICU is for critically ill dogs and cats as well as patients that have had major surgery, major trauma and those requiring positive pressure ventilation or peritoneal dialysis. Specialized equipment includes continuous cardiac monitoring, mechanical ventilation and oxygen cages.
Having a state-of-the-art ICU allows the Foster Hospital for Small Animals to provide unparalleled care. The faculty, residents and nurses work together as a team to provide each patient optimal care. This team approach allows each patient to benefit from the collective experience of the entire health care team, not just the primary care doctor.
