Referring Veterinarians

Referrals are absolutely critical to our teaching, research and service missions, and bring our state-of-the-art diagnostic and treatment services to pets throughout New England.

While Tufts University's Foster Hospital for Small Animals has grown to be one of the largest referral hospitals in the Northeast, we provide the level of personalized, compassionate care your clients have come to expect. Behind the scenes, your patients receive the advantage of carefully orchestrated, team-based care. We have renowned faculty specialists, dedicated residents and interns, along with highly skilled veterinary technicians and staff. Our students are energized to provide high-quality care with compassion for patients and clients. Everyone here wants to provide you, the referring veterinarian, with the additional resources you need to manage cases and extend your practice expertise.

We understand that in order to optimize care of your patients and service to your clients, it is essential to receive thorough communications from us. As we strive for clear, effective and timely communications with our referring veterinarians, our policy is that you will receive a professional report shortly after we discharge a hospitalized patient you referred to us. In addition, our attending clinician will contact you if one of your patients comes to our emergency service and the client informs us that you are their primary care veterinarian. Our philosophy is that truly outstanding care of referred patients can only be delivered if the referring veterinarian is an informed and active participant in the process, and we are committed to achieving that goal with each case.

We value your referrals and your support. Thank you for all you do for your patients and the profession!
