Claire Sharp – DVM, BVMS, DACVECC
Claire Sharp joined the Tufts Faculty in August of 2009, joining the faculty of one of the nation's busiest teaching Emergency and Critical Care services for pets. She has particular interests in trauma, systemic infections and respiratory failure requiring mechanical ventilation, and is board-certified by the American College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care.
Dr. Sharp grew up in Western Australia on a tiny tropical island in the Indian Ocean—the West Island in the atoll of the Cocos Keeling Islands. For as long as she could remember, she wanted to be a veterinarian. I can't remember a conscious decision to pursue this career,
she says. It's just in my blood.
After attending Perth, Australia's Murdoch University to earn both a bachelor's and a BVMS—the equivalent of a DVM degree in the United States—Dr. Sharp attended the University of Missouri to obtain a master's degree in veterinary clinical science and undertake a residency. While there, she earned awards for outstanding clinical service and her contribution to student teaching, which were awarded by the faculty and senior students respectively.
Dr. Sharp lives near the Cummings School campus with her cats, Margi and Minson. She enjoys traveling and hopes to resume competitive rowing soon.
Dr. Sharp's academic and research interests can be found on her faculty profile.
