Application to MCM

Admission to the MS in Conservation Medicine (MCM) program is based on an evaluation and recommendation by the MCM Admissions Committee. An interview may be required. Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine’s dean admits applicants from these recommendations.

Program Prerequisites

Applicants must have completed the equivalent of a bachelor's degree at an accredited college or university. Additionally, candidates must successfully complete the following course work prior to enrolling at Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine, but not necessarily prior to applying to the program. All prerequisite coursework must be college or university level.

  • Biology (two semesters)
  • Statistics (one semester)
  • A minimum of one semester of a science/engineering laboratory is also required, preferably in biology

An advanced degree is not required to apply. Students should have attained a broad-based education and range of experience, ideally including international or cross cultural exposure and the ability to work collaboratively. Good communication skills, foreign language skills, and writing skills are highly desirable. Non-veterinarians are encouraged to apply.

Application Fee

A nonrefundable application fee of $70, payable by credit card, should accompany your online application.

Academic Transcripts

Official transcripts are required from all colleges and universities you have attended, including separate official transcripts for all foreign exchange or semester abroad programs, and transfer credit from other institutions that appears on your primary transcript.

If you are currently enrolled in an academic program, please submit an official transcript of the work you have completed to date. When additional grades become available, please submit an updated transcript.

Standardized Tests

Applicants may submit score results from either the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) or the Graduate Record Examination (GRE).

  • Official MCAT Scores
    To send your MCAT scores to Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine, please follow these instructions:
    • Log in to the MCAT Testing History site: https://services.aamc.org/mcatthx/
    • Select “Send all of my scores”
    • In the box “Veterinary Schools,” select “Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University”
    • Select "Add"
    • After reading the consent to release scores, check the box “I agree”
    • Select "Submit"

  • Official GRE Scores
    The Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine recipient code for the GRE is 3893.Although the Educational Testing Service allows options for reporting GRE scores to graduate and professional schools, Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine does not. You must submit all of your GRE scores from all of your test administrations. You may not decide to send certain scores only. This means that if you have already taken the GRE and you need to request scores for your Tufts application, you must choose the “Score Select All” option. If you plan to take the GRE again after submitting your application, you must choose the “Score Select All” option on your test day. There is no charge for choosing this option.GRE scores are valid for five years. Additional information can be obtained on the GRE website.

Letters of Evaluation

Three letters of evaluation should be submitted—one from each of the following areas:

  • A faculty member in your major field of study
  • A professional colleague or employer
  • A faculty member or professional colleague

Curriculum Vitae

A current Curriculum Vitae, including any publication and funding record, is required.

The CV may be submitted electronically along with your online application.

Applicants from Foreign Countries

In addition to all of the aforementioned application requirements, foreign applicants are asked to submit:

  • Official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended, in their original language
  • Attested English translations of all transcripts, if applicable
  • Test results for the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) if their native language is not English
