Shelter Medicine Program

Center for Shelter DogsThe Center for Shelter Dogs (CSD) is a new initiative of the Shelter Medicine Program, also housed within the Center for Animals and Public Policy, dedicated to improving the welfare of homeless dogs cared for by humane organizations, animal control facilities, and rescue groups throughout the nation.

The Shelter Medicine Program at Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University was founded in 2006 with the mission of improving quality of life for shelter animals through the education of steering committee of Cummings School faculty and staff, as well as members of the local sheltering community. Additionally, a host of area partners work with the school to provide opportunities for students to observe and participate first-hand in working shelters in Massachusetts.
