Animals in the Environment

Addressing Change

As demands increase and new challenges to ecosystem health arise, so do issues that impact relationships among humans, animals, and the environment. Faculty research, policy analysis, and student projects conducted by the Center for Animals and Public Policy address issues of animal welfare and the human relationship with animals in the natural world as affected by human modification of our shared environment.

Special interests in this area include welfare of food animals and domestic horses, ecologically and economically sustainable animal agriculture in New England, resolution of human-wildlife conflicts in cities and suburbs, and experience of wild horses on the range and as they transition from the range to the domestic environment. The Center works closely on these issues with the Cummings School Farm and the Tufts Center for Conservation Medicine.
