Center for Animals and Public Policy Areas of Focus

Animals play many roles in human society. These include functional roles such as companions, sources of food, fiber and labor, and research subjects; but animals also possess deep symbolic, religious, aesthetic, ecological and ethical meaning. To organize our thinking and focus our research, teaching and service activities, the Center for Animals and Public Policy has designated three areas of focus which are listed below. However, because of the interdisciplinary nature of inquiry at the Center and the complexity of human-animal relationships, our focal area boundaries can be quite porous in practice.
