Loren S.H. Sri-Jayantha Student Profile

Loren S.H. Sri-Jayantha

Education:

B.S. in Biology, Bucknell University, 2012

Student Groups:

I plan on joining Gap Junction, Vet Emergency & Critical Care Society, Vet Nutrition Club, Vet Disaster Response, Vet Surgical Society, and Wildlife, Aquatic, Zoo Animal, and Exotic Medicine Club

Choosing the Cummings School:

I visited several veterinary schools and Tufts was definitely my favorite. The friendliness toward and focus on students by the faculty was readily apparent during my visits. I did not have much inside information regarding any school, and I got the same “spiel” at the schools I visited. Tufts was the only one that gave me an immediate positive gut reaction, and I was not wrong.

Before Entering Veterinary School:

I graduated in 2012, but I had decided “late” that I wanted to become a veterinarian. I knew that during my last year of college I would not be a highly coveted candidate for vet schools with my current credentials, so I spent the year sprucing up my application.

After graduation I spent the summer taking prerequisite classes. In the fall, I split my time working at a companion animal practice and a mixed practice (with a focus on dairy cattle). In the spring I worked as a lab assistant at Emory University at the Emory Children’s Center and the Children’s Hospital of Atlanta in a pediatric gastroenterology research lab.

Career Path:

I want to start off as a clinician in some capacity, whether that be domestic or international. I have not decided on what species I would like to work on. Eventually, I want to move into a field with a wider impact: veterinary education, public health, or research.

The Year Ahead:

I am excited to get to know my classmates, to learn information I will use in my career, and to get some hands-on experience. I am looking forward to the community cat TNR (Trap, Neuter, Release) clinics.

Favorite Vet School Experience So Far:

Clinical skills! Learning outside of a lecture hall, handling animals, tying knots… what is not to like? I got to hold my first piglet!

Favorite Thing About Campus:

It is absolutely gorgeous here. In addition, I like that we are not attached to a huge undergraduate campus.
