Anne Fleming Student Profile

Choosing the Cummings School

I chose Tufts for its reputation and location. All of my animals' vets have been Tufts graduates, and being a MA resident means I have always heard great things about the school and the work they do in and for the community. I am particularly interested in the field of conservation medicine, which is a significant focus area at Cummings.

Education

  • Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Russian Language, Dartmouth College, Hanover, NH (1987)
  • Master of Business Administration, Duke University, Durham, NC (1992)

Career Goals

As a mid-life career changer, I would like to say my career goals are still flexible! While I have always thought I would be a private-practice veterinarian, I am also a joint degree student in the DVM/MPH program. I would like to explore career options that offer the best of both disciplines. I plan to make the most of my rotation experiences at Cummings to investigate alternatives.

Looking Forward to First Year

Starting on the path to my dream job excites me most! Keeping up with what seems like a daunting academic schedule makes me most nervous. Happily, I have also heard a lot about how supportive fellow students, professors, and staff are, particularly during the first year.

Are You Ready?

As ready as I can be. There has been a lot of useful information posted on TUSK by the deans and first year instructors that I am trying to take advantage of before the first day arrives.

Telling Everyone

E-mail is a wonderful thing. In addition to calling my husband and mom immediately, I emailed every one on my friends and family contact list within about two minutes (I am a fast typer!). Such wonderful news to share, I just couldn't wait!
