Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine invites nominations and applications for the position of Associate/Full Professor and Chair, Department of Clinical Sciences. The College seeks an academic leader who will foster intellectual productivity and collegiality within a talented group of clinicians, scientists, and teachers. The ideal candidate will enhance the environment for excellence in teaching, clinical service, and research at the departmental and school levels; promote communication, and cooperation; nurture faculty development at all ranks; and interface effectively with a dynamic life sciences community of clinicians, scholars and educators throughout the University.


The Department of Clinical Sciences is one of four departments at the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine. The Department of Clinical Sciences is composed of a large number of faculty (currently ~60), 3 Associate Chairs in charge of Postgraduate Programs, Faculty Development and Teaching, and Research, and a comprehensive administrative support staff.  Clinical expertise is excellent, with a breadth of specialties, working with all species (in particular small animals, exotics, equine, and camelids). Clinical and translational research within the department is also robust and valued, with strong infrastructural support for research and an emerging clinical trials program (, with an emphasis on clinical research in the areas of cardiology, comparative oncology, small animal internal medicine, nutrition, and regenerative medicine.  The departmental teaching mission is served through professional and graduate course offerings and clinical internship and residency training programs in small animal and equine specialties. Candidates must have an earned doctor of veterinary medicine degree and a board specialization in a relevant clinical field. An earned doctoral or master degree in a life sciences field or proven expertise and productivity in research are expected. The successful candidate must be an effective communicator and facilitator and demonstrate a high level of professional and scholarly leadership. The Department Chair will be expected to interact closely with the Hospital Director, together overseeing faculty development and house officer training.  The candidate is encouraged to also pursue their own clinical, pedagogical, or research interests as part of this position.
