Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University invites applications for an academic-track faculty position in anesthesia and analgesia. We seek a candidate who is committed to excellent patient care and shares an enthusiastic dedication for teaching of our students, technicians, and residents. Anticipated percentage allocations for this position are 50-65% clinical service and 35-50% academic time, depending upon the interests of the candidate.
The ideal candidate would be willing to work with a robust caseload encompassing the Hospital for Large Animals and the Foster Hospital for Small Animals. Our caseload is primarily equine, small camelids, and other small ruminants in the large animal hospital and dogs, cats, and a variety of exotic species in the small animal hospital. There is also an occasional opportunity to anesthetize animals at surrounding zoos and animal parks. We pride ourselves on working well with all sections of both hospitals and therefore we seek a team member with a collaborative spirit.
The selected candidate should enjoy resident mentoring, and is expected to assist with boards review sessions, journal club, and other aspects of resident training including supervision of resident research projects.
There are many opportunities to develop collaborative research projects with faculty on this campus or with researchers on other Tufts campuses and within the New England medical community. All scholarly activity is valued in the school’s promotions process.
Requirements include a DVM degree or its equivalent and completion of an American College of Veterinary Anesthesia and Analgesia (ACVAA) and/or European College of Veterinary Anesthesia and Analgesia (ECVAA) residency. Preference will be given to individuals who are ACVAA/ECVAA board certified. Rank and salary will be commensurate with training and experience, and resident mentoring experience will be highly valued.
The individual selected for this position will join the anesthesiology team at the Foster Hospital for Small Animals and the Hospital for Large Animals, our flagship teaching hospitals at the Cummings Veterinary Medical Center in North Grafton, MA. We aim to further enhance the strong reputation of the anesthesia team in the areas of clinical service, student teaching, resident training, and research.
This position is available July 1, 2018. An initial review of applications will begin after November 30, 2017, but the search will continue until a suitable candidate is identified. Applicants should submit a letter of intent outlining their interests, experience, and qualifications, a current curriculum vitae, and the names of three professional references via Interfolio at http://apply.interfolio.com/44376. Inquiries can be directed to the anesthesia section head, Dr. Amanda Abelson (firstname.lastname@example.org).
