Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University invites applications for a part-time faculty position in medical oncology at the Clinical Instructor level in the Department of Clinical Sciences. Anticipated percentage time allocations for this part-time position are 50% clinical service, teaching and departmental responsibilities, and 30% in support of the Clinical Trials Office and CTSI One Health related activities.
DVM or VMD with diplomate status in the ACVIM subspecialty of oncology
5+ years of experience in veterinary medical oncology
Have 2+ years of experience managing clinical trials in a veterinary care setting
Knowledge and familiarity of GCP and GLP (Good Laboratory Practice)
Ability to gather, organize, and verify data for projects, as well as ability to multi-task and prioritize accordingly
Excellent interpersonal skills to build, maintain, and influence positive working relationships with project teams
Ability to perform in a fast paced environment
Effective presentation/meeting skills and an ability to understand expectations within all levels of the organization
Excellent oral and written communication skill is required
Experience working with Outlook, Microsoft Office, and electronic Veterinary medical records systems
Strengths are required in teaching, research, and clinical service.
Duties and responsibilities
Participate in clinical service; clinical, laboratory, and didactic (classroom) teaching of veterinary students, interns, and residents
Provide oncology service to patients of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital
Advise and consult with referring veterinarians and clients, provide in house consultation to other services within the Veterinary Teaching Hospital
Provide oversight of technicians and the clinical trials intern in the Clinical Trials Office, insure that the site is compliant and meets FDA-CVM regulatory requirements, SOPs (Standard Operating Procedure) and
GCPs (Good Clinical Practice) and that accurate and timely data ins entered into case report forms according to protocol/sponsor requirements
Work with technicians and intern to obtain informed consent, randomize patient according to protocol, schedule patient visits/tests and assess/document toxicities and adverse effects
Oversee all aspects of patient care within the Clinical Trials Office and the veterinary oncology service when on clinics
Recruit patients for oncology clinical trials through communication and recruitment activities with referring veterinarians and other clinician within the Veterinary Teaching Hospital
Monitor incoming referrals and emergency patients for candidates suitable for clinical trials
Interface with other services within the veterinary teaching hospital as point person for clinical trials
Provide support for the CTSI One Health Optional Module and CTSA Administrative Supplement related activities including:
Support outreach efforts with respect to clients/pet owners regarding clinical trial opportunities
Assist with restructuring, testing and growth of COHA web site
Facilitate connecting Cummings faculty with CTSI partners interested in spontaneous disease models.
Help coordinate integration and communication with CTSI services and partners
